About

Given that we are Americans in our early 30s living abroad for awhile, isn’t there some sort of imperative for us to blog about our experiences, discoveries, and ruminations?  Besides, there are all those potential side benefits, like keeping up with friends and family, disseminating information that someone else on the Internet might find useful, and/or having a record for us to look back upon ourselves in the future.

Why “Tortoiseshell Tales”?  Well, we could come up with some sort of explanation about how a brindled pattern of orange and black coloring is like the combination of sunny and stormy emotions one experiences when learning the ropes of living in a foreign country . . . but really, it’s just named after our cat.
